  • Celebrating Gifted and Talented Education in Maryland

Gifted and talented students and educators in Maryland are thriving in the classroom, on the stage, in the art room and beyond. The Maryland State Department of Education and State Advisory Council on Gifted and Talented Education annually recognizes schools and individuals for contributions and excellence in gifted and talented education.

The Excellence in Gifted and Talented Education (EGATE) School Awards Program honors exceptional elementary, middle, and high schools that have gifted and talented education programs aligned with Maryland’s Criteria for Excellence: Gifted and Talented Program Guidelines and COMAR 13A.04.07 Gifted and Talented Education.

Learn more about the EGATE award and download the application in PDF.

Outstanding educators, administrators and students are honored for their accomplishments in gifted and talented education during Maryland’s gifted and talented education month each February.

The nomination form will be available in the fall of each school year. Please visit the Gifted and Talented page of the Maryland State Department of Education website to access the application.”

The recipients for both EGATE and individual awards are recognized each year in a reception and ceremony held during Maryland’s Gifted and Talented Education month. See the 2019 award-winners here (PDF).

Maryland began the EGATE program in 2010 and has given the honor 83 times to schools from 10 local school systems. Nineteen schools have earned the award twice. Here is a complete list of winners from 2010-2020 (PDF)
